Abuja, Nigeria – June 14, 2025 — The Federal Government of Nigeria has strongly condemned the recent preemptive strike by Israel on Iran, a move that has triggered a sharp escalation in hostilities between the two nations. In a statement issued on Friday, the Nigerian government expressed deep concern over the intensifying conflict, which has seen sustained missile and aerial exchanges across Iranian and Israeli territories.
Describing the development as a dangerous spiral of retaliation, Nigeria warned that the ongoing violence not only endangers civilian lives but also threatens to destabilize the broader Middle East. Officials cautioned that the consequences could ripple beyond the region, with serious implications for global security and economic stability.
“Nigeria calls for an immediate cessation of hostilities,” the statement read, “and urges both parties to exercise utmost restraint in the interest of regional and global peace.”
As a country with a longstanding commitment to peaceful coexistence and diplomatic engagement, Nigeria reaffirmed its support for multilateral approaches to conflict resolution. The government emphasized that military action cannot replace meaningful dialogue and mutual understanding.
The statement also called on the international community—particularly the United Nations Security Council—to intensify efforts to de-escalate the crisis and facilitate a platform for constructive negotiations.
“Nigeria stands ready to support all genuine efforts aimed at restoring calm and promoting lasting peace in the region,” the government concluded.
This latest diplomatic stance reflects Nigeria’s growing voice in international peace efforts, particularly in a time of mounting geopolitical tensions.
