CBN approvals under Emefiele lacked Buhari’s signature, says Presidency.
The Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, has disclosed that many approvals for the release of funds within the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) during the tenure of Godwin Emefiele did not have the signature of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking in an interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo on Monday night, Ngelale said that while Buhari had made achievements in other areas such as infrastructure and ease of doing business, his negligence in overseeing the activities of the CBN led to the current state of the economy.
Ngelale also pointed out that Governor Emefiele was allowed to continue in office even though he was inherited and was given a second term to continue doing what he ended up doing.
President Tinubu, who has supported Buhari’s administration, has not hesitated to disclose to Nigerians things that were not healthy to the economy that happened under his predecessor.
The responsibility and decision were made by President Muhammadu Buhari despite his awareness of the activities in the Central Bank of Nigeria. It is crucial to acknowledge this responsibility.

However, it is important not to overlook the positive aspects of his administration, such as infrastructure development and improvements in the ease of doing business, which have attracted investments into the country.
One of the questionable approvals with Buhari’s alleged signature was the release of $6.2 million in cash by the CBN for foreign election observers, which was later discovered to be potentially forged.
Emefiele, initially appointed as CBN governor by President Goodluck Jonathan and later retained by Buhari, is currently facing trial on various charges including corruption, conspiracy, forgery, and obtaining money under false pretenses.
During the trial, former SGF Boss Mustapha denied any involvement in the transaction, stating that the document in question did not originate from the office of then-President Buhari.
