The Federal Government has confirmed that Nigeria is engaging in structured security cooperation with international partners, including the United States, to address terrorism and violent extremism, following recent targeted airstrikes against terrorist locations in the North West.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Nigerian Government has emphasized that this collaboration functions within established bilateral frameworks and adheres to international best practices. These efforts encompass intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of lawful support.
The statement highlighted that this partnership is founded on mutual respect for national sovereignty and a shared commitment to both regional and global security.
The Federal Government reiterated that all counter-terrorism operations prioritize the protection of civilian lives, national unity, and the rights and dignity of citizens, irrespective of their faith or ethnicity.
Furthermore, it was stated that attacks on any community—whether Christian, Muslim, or otherwise—are deemed unacceptable and pose a significant threat to national stability and international peace.
The government also noted that it will continue to collaborate with its partners through diplomatic and security channels to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, address cross-border threats, and enhance Nigeria’s domestic security and intelligence capabilities.
