Wike Dismisses Protest Calling For His Resignation, Labels It Sponsored

Earlier this week, protesters carrying placards gathered at the National Assembly to demand the resignation of Wike, but he ignored them and remained in his position.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) waved off a protest calling for his resignation, claiming it was sponsored. However, he acknowledged that demonstrations are welcomed in a democratic setting.

Wike, who was the former governor of Rivers State, became the FCT minister a few months after Bola Tinubu became the president. However, earlier this week, some demonstrators carrying placards gathered at the National Assembly, calling for his resignation. Despite this, Wike remains undeterred and has stated that such protests do not bother him.

During the inauguration of the resurfacing of 49 roads in the Asokoro, Wuse, and Maitama areas of Abuja, Wike stated, “Yesterday, someone informed me that there were people carrying placards. To be honest, I did not have time to focus on that. I was busy and did not want to be distracted. We want to remain focused and deliver on the mandate given to us by the President. However, it’s important to understand that this is democracy and protests are a part of it.”

“There are many people who have their own opinions, but it is crucial that your opinion aligns with what is beneficial for the people of the FCT. We cannot continue to repeat the same actions and expect to see different outcomes.”

“They have collected money.”

Wike stated that he is not concerned about the protests.

According to Wike, the protesters were paid to demonstrate. The minister stated that the individuals had already received their compensation and that the payment period had elapsed. He emphasized that there was no need for concern regarding the demonstration.

He stated that his administration is committed to ensuring that his policies benefit all residents of FCT.

“We have made decisions to ensure the happiness of our people,” he stated, emphasizing that the well-being of a few individuals should not come at the expense of others. He further added that his administration will prioritize making decisions that will enhance the lives of the people.

Following the flag-off, the FCT minister promised a facelift of roads in the area.
