Troost-Ekong and Lookman Shortlisted for CAF Player of the Year Award
Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong and forward Ademola Lookman have been nominated for the 2024 Confederation of African Football (CAF) Men’s Player of the Year award.
They join a competitive shortlist alongside Achraf Hakimi of Morocco, Simon Adingra of Côte d’Ivoire, and Serhou Guirassy of Guinea, all vying for the prestigious honor.
Lookman earned his nomination thanks to an impressive run at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where he netted three goals, leading Nigeria to the tournament’s final. He continued his standout performances in 2024, making history in the UEFA Europa League.
The 27-year-old scored a hat-trick in the final, becoming the first player to net three goals in a single Europa League final, helping Atalanta clinch their first title and marking the first triumph by an Italian club in the competition.
Troost-Ekong’s nomination follows his exceptional display at the 2023 AFCON, where he was named the Player of the Tournament and scored three crucial goals. His leadership and contributions were instrumental in Nigeria’s successful campaign.
