The Nigerian Army has denied allegations of sexual harassment made by former Private Ruth Ogunleye against Colonel IB Abdulkareem and other personnel of the Army Medical Corps in Lagos, following a thorough investigation.

Earlier this year, Ogunleye publicly alleged sexual abuse by her superior officer on social media. The denial was issued by Major General Onyenma Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, during a press briefing in Abuja.

Nwachukwu explained that Ogunleye had been recommended for medical discharge since 2022, but the Army chose to provide her with comprehensive medical care before her release into society. He attributed her defamation claims to mental health issues, which were confirmed at the National Hospital in Abuja.

The Director stated that the investigation adhered to established protocols to ensure fairness and impartiality. He emphasized that the findings were conclusive, based on an objective evaluation of all available information, reaffirming that Colonel Abdulkareem is a disciplined officer who has consistently upheld the values of the Nigerian Army throughout his service.
