In the previous match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, the Nigerian team won with an impressive 5-0 score against the other team. Uchenna Kanu scored twice, while Esther Okoronkwo and Gift Monday each scored once.

However, star striker Asisat Oshoala and defender Ashleigh Plumptre were still missing from the Nigerian side in this match.

The team was hoping to repeat their success from the previous match, but the hosts had other plans. Racing Power striker Ivania Moreira scored a goal in the 8th minute to show their intentions.

The Super Falcons tried to equalize, but Cape Verde remained resolute, taking their one-goal lead into halftime.

In the second half, Nigeria started putting pressure on the opponent’s defense by bringing in Okoronkwo for Kanu. UD Tenerife forward thought she had scored the equalizer in the 55th minute, but unfortunately, her goal was ruled offside. However, she didn’t have to wait long to get her goal, as she scored a solo goal seven minutes later, maintaining the five-goal aggregate tally.

Okoronkwo was causing trouble for the Cape Verde defence and nearly provided an assist when she set up Toni Payne. Unfortunately, Payne was unable to beat the opposing goalkeeper, Jacinta Rodrigues.

Acting captain Rasheedat Ajibade also had a close call when her shot missed the goal post by mere inches, which could have given the Falcons the lead. Rodrigues had a lot to do as Payne and Okoronkwo threatened, but Ajibade’s goal secured a late win for the Super Falcons.
