CAF Cleared Nigeria on Imposing Sanctions on Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, and Senegal – AFCON 2023

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has cleared Nigeria and all Super Eagles players of any wrongdoing during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles played seven matches and won five, drew one, and lost one.

They maintained an unbeaten streak in their first six matches but lost 2-1 to host nation Cote d’Ivoire in the final.

However, CAF’s investigations did not find any violations on the part of Nigeria and the Super Eagles players.

In contrast, AFCON winners Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, and 2021 champions Senegal faced disciplinary action from the CAF Disciplinary Board. The Board met to discuss various matters and decided to impose sanctions on Mali and Cote d’Ivoire, mainly related to their knockout round clash on February 3rd.

The Fédération Malienne de Football was charged with misconduct due to unsportsmanlike behavior by its players towards the match official.

Hamari Traore was found guilty of unsportsman-like conduct and was suspended for four matches, with two matches suspended for one year.

Additionally, the Malian Football Federation was fined 10,000 US Dollars.
