Workers’ Day: FG Declares Thursday, May 1 Public Holiday
The Federal Government has declared Thursday, May 1, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers’ Day celebration.
The announcement was made on Tuesday by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who praised Nigerian workers for their hard work, sacrifice, and vital role in driving the nation’s progress both internally and globally.
Tunji-Ojo described labour as a cornerstone of nation-building and emphasised the need for peace, innovation, and productivity to support Nigeria’s industrialisation and economic growth.

“There is dignity in labour; the dedication and commitment to the work we do is vital to nation-building,” the minister stated. He urged workers to continually raise the standard of their professions to help improve governance and ensure citizens benefit from the country’s resources.
The minister reaffirmed the Tinubu administration’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, assuring Nigerians of the government’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property across the country.
While wishing workers a joyful celebration, Tunji-Ojo called on citizens to remain hopeful and committed to national development.
