The Nationwide Strike By Tanker Drivers Is Now Suspended

NARTO members had threatened to shut down operations nationwide starting Monday due to the high cost of Automotive Gas Oil, also known as Diesel.

The Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO) has now called off its strike.

NARTO’s National President, Othman Yusuf, instructed members to resume petroleum loading activities immediately after a meeting in Abuja.

The meeting, attended by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri, along with NARTO, oil marketers, and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), led to this decision.

This development followed a meeting on Monday with the Federal Government and stakeholders, where tanker drivers had halted operations and ceased lifting petroleum products due to challenging economic conditions.

NARTO had planned a nationwide shutdown from Monday due to the soaring cost of Diesel, essential for fueling their trucks transporting petroleum products across Nigeria.

The association cited high operational costs in the industry as the reason for their withdrawal of services.

Similar to Premium Motor Spirit, commonly known as petrol, which now exceeds N600 per liter, the price of diesel has also surged recently, attributed to the forex crisis in the country. Presently, diesel is sold for over N1,250 per liter in Nigeria.
