Senate Approves Independent Candidacy, Forward Bill to Buhari for Assent

The Senate, on Tuesday, directed the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA) to transmit a constitution alteration bill No. 58 to President Muhammadu Buhari for assent in line with the provisions of the Authentication Act.

The bill seeks to provide for independent candidacy in presidential, governorship, national and state assemblies and local government councils elections.

The Clerk was also directed to transmit to the president, constitution amendment bill No. 46, which seeks to include the presiding officers of the National Assembly in the membership of the National Security Council.

The Senate Tuesday passed the 2023 budget of N876 billion for Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) out of which N451million was approved as provisions for aides of 12 Board members of the commission .

Aside the N451million provision for aides to 12 Board members of the commission , the approved budget also contain N576million earmarked for running of Office of the Chairman of the Commission , Laurreta Onochie.

The breakdown for the office of the Chairman showed that the personnel cost will gulp – N156 million, overhead -N312 million and Internal capital – N108 million.
