Partnerships Key to Overcoming NPTF Funding Issues, Says Police Affairs Permanent Secretary

Mr. James Sule, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs (MPA), has emphasized that private-public partnerships are essential for the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF) to tackle its funding difficulties.

Speaking at a briefing with the NPTF Management, led by Executive Secretary Mr. Muhammad Sheidu, Sule highlighted the need for effective collaboration to address the agency’s underfunding and optimize its limited resources.

Sule urged the NPTF to prioritize addressing critical issues such as police training and equipment needs to enhance the force’s ability to meet security challenges.

He stressed the importance of leadership and teamwork, noting that improving the police’s performance depends on a conducive environment and a unified effort from all stakeholders.

Earlier, Executive Secretary Muhammad Sheidu reported that the NPTF had successfully executed its 2020 and 2021 capital projects and implemented training programs for 2022 and 2023.

However, he cited challenges including insufficient budgetary provisions, delays in capital appropriation releases, and irregular funding from the 0.5% allocation of the Federation Account and the 0.005% levy on company profits.

Sheidu also mentioned ongoing efforts to engage stakeholders and secure additional funding through partnerships. He remains optimistic that these collaborations will help support police equipment, infrastructure, and personnel welfare.
