Ondo Instructs LG Caretaker Chairmen to exit seats following court order.
Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has directed caretaker chairmen across the 18 Local Government Areas and the newly created 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) of the state to obey court order and vacate their seats.
The government has directed the Heads of Local Government Administration in each council to assume responsibility. A memo dated January 2, 2024, announced the dissolution of the caretaker administrations.
The memo, signed by Adewale Alonge on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stated that the decision was based on a court ruling regarding the appointment of the caretaker committee members for Local Government (LGAs) and Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) in the state.
The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has noticed that despite the suspension of all recently appointed Caretaker Committee members, some individuals are still parading themselves in these former positions.
“I have been instructed to inform the Heads of Local Government Administration (HOLGAs) in all the LGAs/LCDAs that they must take over as the head of their respective Local Government Areas/LCDAs in an acting capacity immediately.
This is due to ongoing legal matters relating to the former Caretaker Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen, and other members of the LGAs/LCDAs.
Additionally, all HOLGAs are required to retrieve all assets and properties that were held by the former Caretaker Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen, and other members and keep them safely within their respective Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas without any delay.”
