Supreme Court Affirms Election Of Nwifuru As Ebonyi Governor

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Francis Nwifuru has been affirmed as the Governor of Ebonyi State by the Supreme Court. Nwifuru had earlier won the March 18 governorship election with 199,131 votes, defeating Ifeanyi Odii of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 80,191 votes and Ben Odo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) who got 52,189 votes.

The Court of Appeal in Lagos had earlier affirmed Nwifuru’s victory in November. However, Chukwuma Odii of the PDP appealed the decision, but his appeal was dismissed by the Supreme Court for lacking merit.

The court held that the PDP and its candidate lacked the legal right to interfere in the internal affairs of the APC regarding the nomination of candidates.

The Supreme Court panel also resolved all issues raised against the appellant and upheld the earlier verdict of the tribunal.

The decision was unanimous, and the panel was presided over by Justice Jummai Sankey. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Nwifuru the winner of the election.
