JUST IN: Supreme Court Affirms Otti’s Victory As Abia Governor
The Supreme Court has affirmed Alex Otti’s election as the Governor of Abia state. Justice Uwani Abba-Aji, who read the lead judgment, stated that the appellants failed to provide substantial evidence of non-compliance in their appeal.
Regarding Otti’s membership, the appellant claimed that he was not validly nominated or sponsored by the Labour Party (LP) during the election. However, the appellate court ruled that membership is an internal affair and therefore lacks jurisdiction.
The appellants were criticized by the Supreme Court for bringing a frivolous and vexatious appeal.
In the previous year’s election, Alex Otti won with 175,466 votes, defeating Okey Ahiwe of the PDP, who received 88,529 votes.
