Dangote Applauds Tinubu’s NNPCL Appointments, Distances Refinery Battle from New Leadership

President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has commended President Bola Tinubu for appointing what he described as a “capable leadership team” at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), following his weekend visit to the president in Abuja.
Dangote specifically praised the appointments of Bashir Ojulari as Group Chief Executive Officer and Ahmadu Kida as Non-Executive Chairman of the NNPCL, stating that the move reflects Tinubu’s strategic intent to reform and innovate the nation’s energy sector.
In a statement issued by his media office, Dangote described the new NNPCL leadership as a “formidable and professionally competent team” equipped with both technical expertise and managerial experience essential for transforming Nigeria’s key public energy enterprise.
“We are confident that this team will address systemic challenges, align with the President’s vision of a $1 trillion economy, and reposition NNPC Limited for operational excellence and long-term sustainability,” he said.

Responding to recent remarks he made about battling entrenched cabals threatening his $20 billion refinery project, Dangote clarified that his comments were not directed at the new NNPCL leadership. He stressed that the current NNPCL management has so far been supportive of the refinery’s progress and overall energy sector transformation.
He explained that the “cabals” he referenced were certain powerful oil marketers and traders seeking to obstruct President Tinubu’s economic reforms.
Dangote lauded the ongoing structural reforms introduced by NNPCL under the new leadership, pointing to enhanced transparency, efficiency, and accountability. He added that the calibre of personnel now leading the company reflects a renewed focus on performance and professionalism.
Looking ahead, Dangote expressed confidence that the new NNPCL team will elevate Nigeria’s energy industry and reiterated his group’s commitment to supporting the shared vision of a prosperous and energy-secure nation.
