Tinubu Approves Key Licenses for Kolmani Oil Project as Drilling Set to Resume

President Bola Tinubu has approved the issuance of critical regulatory licenses for the Kolmani Integrated Development Project, a major oil exploration initiative straddling Bauchi and Gombe states.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, during the commissioning of the permanent site of the Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy in Alkaleri Local Government Area.

Lokpobiri stated that Tinubu’s approval was aimed at removing bottlenecks and fast-tracking development in Nigeria’s energy sector. He emphasized that the President remains committed to transforming the oil and gas industry into a driver of national prosperity.

The Kolmani project, first inaugurated in November 2022, marked the beginning of oil drilling in Northern Nigeria. The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), led by Group Chief Executive Bayo Ojulari, confirmed plans to resume drilling operations at the Kolmani River II field.

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed praised the Federal Government’s support and said the newly launched Bauchi Oil and Gas Academy would boost skill development and innovation in the region.

The Kolmani initiative is expected to significantly contribute to Nigeria’s energy future and regional development.
